Aqua Instructor

Water-based exercise is an effective mode of cardiovascular and resistive exercise that can be used to challenge the whole-body. Aqua aerobics, which is sometimes delivered in more of a circuit style class rather than with complex choreography, is particularly popular with:

  • -Older adults
  • -Pregnant exercisers
  • -Participants with injury
  • -Exercisers looking for variety

Aqua Aerobics Instructor Opportunities

Aqua aerobics instructors are able to undertake a varied work day because of the diversity of the programmes that they can teach. Most aqua instructors also teach a variety of other exercise to music programmes, and work on a freelance basis. Employment opportunities for aqua instructors include:
  • -Health club chains like David Lloyd, Esporta, DW Sports Fitness
  • -Schools and colleges
  • -Local authority leisure centres- some of these may be privately operated
  • -Cruise ships
  • -Holiday resorts and hotels
  • -Spas
  • -Weight management centres
  • -Village halls / community centres- for self or on behalf on an employer

Aqua Instructor’s Pay

The rate of pay for an aqua instructor varies tremendously depending on the mode of employment. Freelances typically earn between £15.00-£25.00 per hour or session depending on their employer, but those who work for themselves, have a potentially uncapped income.
If for example an exercise to music instructor runs their own classes, and has 20 people attending, their earnings could be for one hour:
20    x  £3.50 = £70.00 (minus £20.00 for pool hire)- actual pay = £50.00 per hour
